East Nashville’s Waymore's Guest House Introduces Rooftop Bar

Tall Tales Offers Cold Drinks, Great Food, Live Music, and Stellar Views of the Iconic Nashville Skyline.

“Don’t ever try and be like anybody else and don’t be afraid to take risks.” ― Waylon Jennings

East Nashville, TN [June 24, 2024] — The late namesake of Waymore’s Guest House & Casual Club had some solid ideas about originality and chance-taking. In these respects (and many others), the hotel’s new rooftop bar, Tall Tales, would have been his kind of place.

Tall Tales is located on the 5th floor rooftop of Waymore’s Guest House & Casual Club, a recently opened boutique hotel from L+R Hotels and Bullwhip Capital at 811 Main Street that’s part of East Nashville’s growing hospitality scene. Beyond the glass doors of a 2,000-square-foot indoor bar and lounge area, Tall Tales’ 4,000-square-foot rooftop is a leafy-green oasis — a veritable secret garden — in the heart of East Nashville. There, hundreds of feet of custom-made planters are filled with over 500 trees, bushes, flowers, and herbs, curated by Oasis Design.

The winding pattern of the planters carves out cozy nooks and semi-private seating areas, perfect for indulging in the bar’s dynamic food and drink menu, created by Chef Daniel Gorman, the hotel’s Culinary & Beverage Director, or listening to a local songwriter share their latest work from the rooftop’s performance space.

“Tall Tales is about celebrating the independent spirit in all of us,” says Bullwhip’s Jeff Burns. “But most importantly, it’s a space where everyone should feel welcome. It’s where you can be whoever you want to be — dreamer, joker, good-timer, lover — with the famous Nashville skyline as a backdrop.” Indeed, one of Tall Tales’ hallmarks is knock-out views of downtown Nashville and the modern iteration of the building-scape that famously inspired Bob Dylan.

The view isn’t the only thing at Tall Tales that touches on music culture. The interior bar’s distinctive design, a collaboration between the hotel and Nashville’s Dryden Architecture + Design, is a visual homage to the time when ‘70s country overlapped with disco. The resulting “disco garden party” vibe reads as chic but unexpected, from the interior color scheme of blue, pink, olive, and red-orange, to the Southwestern-inspired architectural details like the “sunrise” arch inserted into the bar shelving. Other interior features include a colorful mural by local artist Maggie Sanger, a sky-blue textured painted ceiling and exposed ductwork, and eggplant leather banquettes by Mesa.

As he did for the hotel’s ground-floor culinary corollary, All Day Café at Waymore's, Chef Gorman has created a delectable menu for Tall Tales with dishes designed to be shared by the table or coursed to make a proper dinner. Highlights include Pulled Chicken and Roast Beef Sliders, Nashville Hot Chips served with Ranch Dip, and a stand-out Watermelon Salad.

Tall Tales features a range of custom cocktails with a heavy summertime vibe. The bar's menu includes a variety of unique concoctions, including the Garden Hornet, with Banhez mezcal and Centerbe Faccia Brutto (an herbal liqueur) combined with matcha, lime, and mint, and The Monkeys Daiquiri, with a sultry mix of Smith & Cross rum, Clement Agricole, and Giffard Banane liqueur. NA cocktails include Sandy Cheeks, a watermelon cocktail featuring Seedlip Garden 108, and the Light & Stormy, with Ritual rum, honey, and lavender.

Hours | Tall Tales is open Sunday - Thursday from 4-11 PM and Friday & Saturday from 4 PM - 1:30 AM. Happy Hour is daily from 4-6 PM and features discounts on wine, draft beer, and classic cocktails.
