The new Far Better Distillery announces their upcoming grand opening in the Germantown neighborhood of downtown Nashville. On April 16, from 10 am to 5:30 pm, the new distillery will celebrate their public grand opening with free tastings, drink specials, bottle specials, and give-aways. Located at 330 Harrison Street at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Harrison Street, Far Better is a block away from the Sounds stadium and two blocks from the Nashville Farmers’ Market.
According to founder and head distiller TJ Fritz, Far Better Distillery is “the newest — and smallest!— distillery in Tennessee.” This family business was founded by a father-daughter team, TJ Fritz, a longtime lover of bourbon with six years’ experience producing whiskey and gin, and Rebecca Fritz, a gin lover who created the recipe for Far Better Gin. Both TJ and Rebecca have a passion for creating memorable flavors and experiences for guests. Building on their relationships with other small local distilleries, Far Better starts with base spirits from these partners, and then blends, ages, and infuses the spirits to create their own offerings. In addition to their Far Better Ultra Small Batch Tennessee Whiskey Bourbon and Far Better Signature Citrus Gin, some of their most popular flavors include Nashville Hot Honey Liqueur, Music City Limooncello Moonshine, Music City Apple Pie Moonshine, and Mo’Cocoa Joe, a coffee and chocolate-flavored liqueur. Seasonal spirits and flavors are also offered, as well as infusion kits for guests to infuse their own spirits at home with flavors such as their “Orange Blossom Special” blend.
In a space of under 1400 square feet that encompasses both the distillery production facility and the tasting room, the mission of Far Better Distillery is twofold: To create a community-focused space in the Germantown neighborhood where everyone is welcome to taste and enjoy delicious spirits-based bottles and cocktails, and to provide hands-on distilling, blending, barreling, and bottling experiences to guests.
Custom barrels with premium personalizing options allow guests to celebrate special occasions — milestone birthdays, births of new babies, marriages, wedding anniversaries, and company celebrations — with a truly unique gift and experience. Barrels are available in 1-Liter, 2-Liter, 5-Liter, 10-Liter, and 20-Liter sizes and can be engraved with custom monograms, logos, quotes, or dates — and guests can age and dispense their own whiskey at home. Custom bottle labels are also an option, so guests can create and share their own private brand. Groups of friends, family, and coworkers can also gather at Far Better to create their desired blend before barreling and bottling.
The unconventional distillery, with a bright 70s vibe and decor, takes its name from a Teddy Roosevelt quote that has been a motto of the founders’ family for years. In part, the quote reads: “Far better it is to dare mighty things.” Having launched their brand via a booth at the Nashville Farmers’ Market right after the onset of COVID and the 2020 tornado that ripped through their Germantown neighborhood, TJ and Rebecca are excited that Far Better has not only survived the past couple of challenging years, but is poised to thrive as they finally celebrate the public grand opening of their brick-and-mortar space.
While the distillery is a new business, TJ is not a newcomer to Nashville small business ownership. Far Better Distillery will continue to share space with Dabble Tours & Events, a business that TJ and his wife, Lynn, and other daughter, Jamie, have owned and operated since 2013. Dabble’s food tours meet at the distillery seven days a week, and Dabble continues to offer hands-on, recreational painting and cooking events to private groups in the space, while also offering private virtual painting and cooking events with supply kits shipped throughout the U.S. Lynn, the artist and photographer who instructs Dabble’s painting classes, is also contributing merchandise to Far Better’s merch shop in the form of Nashville photo gifts such as notecards with photos of Nashville landmarks and scenes, Nashville photo composites, coasters, and barrel stave art.
Far Better Distillery will be open regular hours, from 10 am to 5:30 pm from Thursday through Monday and will be closed for production and bottling on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
