Nashville, TN (Wednesday, July 28, 2021) - The next event at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway will be unlike one seen by speedway goers in a long time. The King of the Wing Sprint Car Series headlines the event that also features Pro Late Models, BH Holmes Construction Legends, USAC Speed2 Eastern Midgets, and Dye Hard Hair Salon Bandoleros. All the action unfolds on Saturday, August 7th at America’s Favorite Short Track, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
As part of Nashville’s open wheel weekend with the Music City Grand Prix in town, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway (NFS) is excited to welcome in King of the Wing (KoW) for their own flavor of open wheel racing. The King of the Wing Series will bring the fastest speeds of the season to NFS, with cars expected to average over 150 MPH around the 5/8ths mile speedway. How do they reach those speeds? Simple Sprint Car physics.
At just over 1,600 pounds, the 410CUI powered cars are a power-to-weight ratio dream; packing a whole bunch of power to move around very little weight. Plus, the cars are designed to go fast, with a 25 square foot top wing to plant the center of the car to the race track, and a six square foot nose wing to help the car turn. When the equation is all added together, it equals rocketing speeds that can only be seen once this year in Nashville.
With the KoW, a new format for August 7th is being unveiled to match the KoW race procedures. All divisions, except the Bandoleros and Midgets, will Qualify, run Heat Races, and then their Feature. Qualifying will determine the line up in the evening’s heat races, with the heat races deciding where drivers will line-up for the feature later that night.
